Natsamrat is a popular Marathi Natak based on the book written by writer Vi Va Shirvadkar. Many acting legends have performed the lead role of Ganpat Belwalkar.

Story :

The story starts with Appa Belawalkar, the top actor of the Marathi Natak industry retiring after one great performance. He has retired after seeing the glory of the golden era of Marathi stage and has played a number of legendary Shakespeare characters like King Lear, Caeser, Othello with gusto.

Despite having a great career professionally as a drama actor, life has kept some more drama for his home. When his son and daughter whom he has dedicated his will and all his estate, turn against him what will Appa do?

He chooses to leave them and live as a poor tea attender, along with a street beggar. His wife Kaveri plays the third act of their life with pride and dignity. It is a classic heart breaking tragedy of an old man and an actor who falls from the best to the worst circumstances of his life.

The Natak highlights the complex human characteristics and obviously shows that no man can beat destiny. Using different facets of human conduct and situations, the highlights of human tragic life are portrayed through the lead actor.

In 2015, a movie released by Mahesh Manjrekar, having Nana Patekar in the lead role was released and got great reviews.
