- Lacey was born on August 10, 1987. She is native to the small town of Kiefer, Oklahoma.
- She has an older brother, whom she wanted to emulate throughout her growing years. This led to her becoming a tomboy, wherein she adored being outdoors all the time. She also has a younger sister.

- While at college, Lacey was a member of the Oklahoma University Chapter of the American Meteorological Society (AMS).

- While at university, Lacey took up the role of a forecaster at OWL (Oklahoma Weather Lab). She was also a part-timer at CIMMS (Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies).
- Her other jobs included working as a part-timer for IT and working shifts at Oklahoma University Nightly.
- She has also worked for some time as a researcher for a National Science Foundation grant, which focused on Oklahoma’s solar panels.
- Swope’s first real job was with KMEG 14, Sioux City, Iowa. Here, she handled the position of a meteorologist for the morning show on weekdays. The highlight of her career with this company was the coverage of the tornado, which destroyed around 60% of Mapleton, on April 9, 2011.
- Currently, Lacey is with the News 9 Weather team at Oklahoma City. She has been on this show for the last 10+ years. Her job is to report about the weather in the morning and the noon shows.
- Lacey’s team’s coverage of the devastating tornados on May 19, 20 and 31, fetched them a regional Emmy Award. The El Reno tornado that struck without warning on May 31, 2013, was the widest that anyone had ever seen!

- While in college, initially, Lacey had no interest in TV…she wanted to work in research or computer coding, and was interested in solar energy. Her friend Luke Doris (now a chief meteorologist in Kansas City) convinced her to intern at News 9 with Gary England. Reluctantly, she visited the station and was offered an internship. Though Lacey was initially “awful” on-air, she grew to love broadcasting!
- Lacey is thrilled to be in regular touch with her own family, as well as with her husband’s family. Most of them live around Tulsa.
- Her outdoor interests include fishing, hunting, chasing storms, and shooting off on random road trips. Infact at just 12 years old, she harvested her first deer! She loved hunting not to be “cool” but because of her genuine passion for the outdoors.
- She also adores shopping, watching sentimental love stories, and keeping herself well tanned. Not surprisingly, Swope’s biggest passion is studying the weather and atmosphere.
- Lacey loves interacting with people, whether it is face-to-face, on television, or on social networking sites.
- Once upon a time, Lacey’s father had packed up the family and fleed in the car, after hearing popular meteorologist Gary England’s weather forecast, as the family had no storm cellar. Years later, Lacey worked alongside Gary at the same weather station! Thus, it is safe to conclude that Lacey’s love affair with clouds, skies, tornadoes, and hurricanes began from childhood. It continues until today, albeit growing in intensity!
- In 2016, Swope helped surprise a Shawnee police officer’s family with a free FlatSafe tornado shelter as part of News 9 Shelter from the Storm contest.

Waiting for the Baby to come. My wife and I have 5 children and numerous grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. I don’t recommend that many in today’s time. Having gotten a look at the behind the scenes, that is either the microphone pack or the IFB pack (IFBs are the ear pieces queuing the talent when they’re on the air as well as monitoring their microphone). Men can hide it in their pockets, but since women don’t have pockets (or if they do, they’re most likely not functional pockets), they have to use a leg strap and attach the pack there.
