- WVIT in Hartford, Connecticut, then offered her the role of weekend anchor/reporter after she quit WICD. She remained with them from August 2005 until January 2012.
- Petty is renowned for anchoring several hours of a marathon show in August 2011. The 27-hour coverage was of Irene, the tropical storm that hit Connecticut’s shores. It was so dramatic and outstanding that the coverage received an Emmy award.

- In her farewell message, Lauren reflected that growing up in the suburbs, her dream had always been to work on television in Chicago, a dream that came true when NBC 5 called nearly 13 years earlier, and she added that she would be forever grateful.
