Early Life, Parents and Education :
- Stephen was born on May 18, 1975, in Hollywood, California, with the actual name Stephen Stansbury.
- When he was 12, his family moved to Point Pleasant, New Jersey.
- At the age of 18, he left home to go live in LA & changed his name to Stephen Belafonte.
- He attended Loyola Marymount University, from where he graduated and soon afterwards worked on starting his own film production company called Remag.
Earlier Girlfriends & Relationships :
- Stephen has had his fair share of relationships which all seem to have ended on a sour note.
- In 1997, at age 22, he got married to Nancy Carmell in LA, but the union did not last for long.
- Two months down the line, Nancy fled to her hometown, Honolulu & she applied for the marriage to be withdrawn.
- Later on, he got into a relationship with Nicole Contreras, a model with whom he also has a kid: A daughter named Giselle Belafonte. This, too did not last after he was charged with beating her up at their home during a row.
Mel B and Stephen Belafonte Relationship :
- Stephen then met film production mogul Melanie Brown, a former Spice Girl, during a set for a film called Talk.
- The two started dating in February 2007, and shortly after, in June the same year, the two got married in Las Vegas.
- Things between them were all rosy, and they even renewed their marriage vows in 2008 in Egypt in the presence of their close friends and family.
- On 1st September 2011, Mel B also gave birth to their child, a daughter named Madison.
Marriage Problems :
- In 2014, things began taking a turn for the worst after Mel B was on several occasions noticed with bruises and scratches during her appearances on X Factor Live Show.
- In 2017, Mel B filed for a divorce. She also went ahead and got a restraining order for her ex-husband with claims that he beat and exploited her sexually.
- She went on to deny Stephen access to all their bank accounts, which she claimed he controlled during their marriage.
Fair Share of Legal Troubles :
- The assault cases on his partners’ aside, Belafonte seems to be no stranger to other troubles with the law.
- In 1994, Stephen was charged with theft and burglary in New Jersey.
- In 2000, he was accused of assaulting two men & after being taken to court, the charges were reduced to vandalism when he agreed to pay for the damage on the men’s car.
- In 2007, he fled to Los Angeles, evading to pay a court fine for killing a mallard using a brick outside his house, and in 2010, during a night out with Mel B at May Fair Hotel, Stephen was involved in a fight with some three men, and he left one of them in urgent need of medical treatment.
