- Abby was born into a one-child family and was considered a bright student & an academic from a young age.
- Her parents are June C. Phillip and Carlos W. Phillip. Her father was a psychology program manager for the District of Columbia Public Schools in Washington & her mom is a real estate investor.
- Abby Phillip Harvard Education : In 2006, Abby began attending Harvard University, having been accepted straight out of high school.
- Originally, she began at Harvard intending to complete a pre-med degree to assist her with her goal of becoming a heart surgeon.
- However, a class assignment required her to write a one-off blog about her experiences with a service trip. It was this assignment that made her realize her heart was in journalism, and from there, she transitioned into Harvard’s school of Arts.
- She graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts and a major in Government.
- In May 2018, Abby got married to Marcus Richardson. Marcus is a managing consultant at a mobile app security company & has graduated from Florida State University. The pair had first met in 2011 in Washington at a party.

Abby is very impressive. Poised, calm and intelligent. I love seeing her report. When I first saw her, I was wondering, who is this young intelligent black lady on Anderson Cooper 360 panel? Way to go Abby! I’m thinking your parents must be so proud. For the record, she asked the President a valid question that everyone wanted to know. Of course we knew he would deny that was the purpose of hiring Whitaker. NOT a stupid question. Abby, keep asking those valid questions and handling yourself in a professional manner, even when you’re disrespected by the President. For it will happen again. Hold your head up! You got this! ABBY PHILLIP caught my eye at CNN reporting from the White house one morning as I have multiple times. Then surely enough, later same day at noon, I saw her with CNN Wolfe Blitzer, and yet later same day early evening, I saw her with Jake Tapper at CNN The Lead. That is amazing indeed for a young lovely lady, with such a vast knowledge, articulate, and with calm composure. Abby I am indeed very proud of you.
