Katia Porzecanski was born on December 10, 1986, to mixed-race parents – An Italian born mother, Nina, and an Uruguayan father, Arturo.
Her father, Arturo Porzecanski, is a distinguished economist and professor of Economics, and her mother, Nina Porzecanski, is also a highly accomplished economist.
She has a brother, Marc, who also works on Wall Street.

Katia attended the prestigious and highly selective Horace Mann High School in New York City.
She then went on to study at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts, from 2005 to 2009. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and received the highest honors for her thesis.
Katia married Jacob Strauss on September 29, 2018, at the Wave Hill Public Garden and Cultural Centre in New York City. The couple’s honeymoon took place across South Africa and Tanzania, fulfilling her love for travel and adventure, which she shares with her husband Jacob.

Katia is very close to her family and frequently visits with her parents. Her father, Arturo Porzecanski, has an extremely rare disease called Systemic Capillary Leak Syndrome, which can be lethal. Arturo came to the United States in 1968 after growing up in Montevideo, Uruguay.
Porzecanski is a fan of football/soccer, which she attributes to her Italian and Uruguayan roots, as well as living a lot of time in Argentina.
