• Katie Hannon is an Irish journalist, writer and political correspondent who works for RTÉ Ireland.
• Talented and a natural multi-tasker, Katie does a good job of balancing her career with being a mother and a wife.

• Katie was born in August 1971 in Duagh, County Kerry. She grew up on a farm in Bunglasha, a few miles outside Duagh in North Kerry, and is the seventh of eight children (three boys and five girls). She now lives in Dublin and refers to herself as an “exiled Kerrywoman.”
• Katie’s mother Winnie passed away on January 4, 2011, when the twins were just four months old, but she did get to hold them before she died. Her brother Joe died from cancer in 1993 at age 30. Both parents have since passed away.
• She is a very private person & rarely discusses her personal life in the media. As such, little information is known about her background, childhood and early life in general.
• Hannon is a happily married woman and has 15-years-old twin daughters (age as of 2025) whom she mentions occupy most of her time when she is at home. Katie does a good job of keeping her family life under wraps & with the exception of a couple of posts on social media, she prefers to keep most personal details about her life private.
• Katie’s twin daughters were born premature in August 2010, weighing just 2.5 pounds and 3 pounds respectively. They spent six weeks in the special care unit at the Rotunda Hospital.

• Katie attended Our Lady of Fatima Secondary School in Listowel and Duagh National School, then studied journalism at Dublin Institute of Technology in Rathmines and Aungier Street.
• In the early years of her career, Katie held several working positions across different platforms that included being a colour writer, a social diarist and an opinion columnist.
• One of her first jobs was as the social diarist for The Herald at the age of 21. Working in this role, Katie attended constant splashy events and started a friendship with music manager Louis Walsh. She even jokes that she gave Louis the idea to kickstart the Irish boy band Boyzone.
• Katie eventually decided to venture into Political Journalism & began working for the Evening Herald as a Political Correspondent before moving on to join the Irish Examiner.
• Katie also worked for the Sunday Irish Mail as their Political Editor.
• In 2004, she joined the RTE team as a Broadcast Journalist for their Prime Time show.
• At RTÉ, she worked as a reporter covering investigations into children’s vaccine trials, child protection service failures, banking scandals, and issues in the waste industry, before being promoted to Political Correspondent.
• From 2018–2022, Katie presented RTÉ Radio 1’s political programmes The Late Debate and Saturday with Katie Hannon. In January 2023, she began hosting Upfront with Katie Hannon, which ran for three seasons until June 2025.
• In September 2025, Katie began presenting The Records Show, a TV series exploring Ireland’s National Archives, with a second season due in early 2026.

• Besides being a reporter, journalist and political correspondent, Hannon is also an author and has previously written a book titled, The Naked Politician. The book which was published in 2004 offers a detailed account of Irish Politics and all of its challenges, failures and successes.

Katie has had quite a successful career & throughout the years, she has received quite a handful of accolades that include the following :

• The Young Journalist of the Year Award given to her by the Irish Goods Council.
• The 2012 Story of the Year Award which she won at the Annual GSK Medical Media Awards.
• The John Healy National Print Award.
• Kerry Person of the Year 2023 by the Kerry Association in Dublin.

• Katie Hannon is a regular user of social media and enjoys using her accounts as platforms to continue delivering political updates and opinions to her followers.
• During one particular episode of the Prime Time show on RTE, a viewer took note of the Biro pen that Katie was using and decided to send her four, brand new, stylish pens that could use as replacements. Moved by their kindness, Katie posted a picture of the pens along with the handwritten note that accompanied them on social media. In her post, she thanked the viewer for their kindness and generous gesture.
• Katie’s acclaimed 2021 Radio 1 documentary Women of Honour exposed misogyny, bullying, and sexual assault in the Irish Defence Forces, prompting a government investigation that accepted all 13 recommendations in full by March 2023.
• If given an alternative career, Katie has said she would be “very happy working as an archivist or historian” because she loves “rummaging around and reading other people’s stories.”
