Introduction :
Keith Downie is a well-known sports reporter and presenter. Currently, he is a football reporter for Sky Sports, mainly covering the fortunes and goings-on at Newcastle, Middlesbrough & Sunderland.
Personal Life : Parents, Family and Education
- Keith was born in 1982 in Glasgow, Scotland. He grew up in a household filled with music, thanks to his father who was a mobile DJ specializing in weddings and parties. He fondly recalls his dad playing the latest tracks, which contributed to his extensive knowledge of lyrics from various eras.
- Football and sports reporting too have always been a passion for Keith. It’s the job he has always wanted since he was ten years old. He used to write stories about imaginary football teams. He even used to play golf games and tournaments in the back garden & then used to go inside to file a report.
- When he was 17 years old, Keith covered his first non-imaginary match, which featured Peterhead FC versus Albion Rovers FC. He was quite nervous while covering this match.
- From 1999 to 2003, Keith studied at Edinburgh Napier University in Edinburgh. He earned a BA degree in Broadcast Journalism.
Career, Income, Salary and Net Worth :
- Keith’s career started in 2005 as a Sports Broadcaster for Radio Forth in Edinburgh. He worked with them for around one year.
- From 2006 to 2009, Keith joined Setanta Sports in Glasgow as a TV Football Reporter and Commentator. Additionally, he also conducted interviews with players and managers.
- In 2010, he worked for a few months as a Freelance VT Producer for Awards Dinner at PFA Scotland, followed by the position of Track-side Reporter at Premier Sports. He reported live matches from the European Champions League and Europa League.
- Over the course of his career, Keith has worked as a Freelance Football Reporter with News International, News Corp UK & Ireland Limited and as a match reporter for SPL and SFL matches for the Scottish Sun.
- From 2011 onwards, Keith has been working with ESPN, the Worldwide Leader in Sports, as a Freelance Pitch-side Reporter for live SPL games.

- Keith normally heads off on vacation during the closed season. He has travelled to several countries including, United Arab Emirates (Dubai and Abu Dhabi), Australia and Thailand.
- He mentions that his dream date would be attending a football match and then going out in town with TV Actress, Michelle Keegan.
- His greatest achievement was being the only reporter covering every single game, home and away, of Rangers’ 2008 run in the UEFA Cup.
- During the havoc of Storm Malik in 2022, Downie revealed that his brand new BMW had been crushed by a huge tree after falling through the car’s roof.
- Keith has a strong attachment to the song “Thinking of You” by Sister Sledge, and he once considered it as a potential first dance track for his wedding. Another track “Young Hearts Run Free” by Candi Staton also holds a special place in Keith’s heart as it reminds him of the moment when Hearts won the cup in 1998.
