- She returned to Florida to start her career initially and eventually met her first husband, Lee Norris Rayam.
- Lee, whom Lisa often describes as her soulmate, was a poet and activist. He was murdered while the couple was on vacation in Jamaica, in 1994, early on in their marriage. The couple was celebrating their second anniversary.
- In May 1995, a craft vendor named Noah Riley was first arrested and spent a year on death row. However, a Jamaican Court reversed the verdict, arguing that Lisa’s testimony was insufficient to show that Riley was an attacker. The Rayam family was surprised to hear that Riley was a free man. The current status of the case is not known.
- She went on to remarry later in life and now lives in Atlanta with her second husband, Derwin Tucker. Lisa has two children – sons Jordan and Kamryn. Jordan Tucker graduated from University of North Carolina (Tarheels) and was an offensive tackle who declared for the NFL draft in 2022, while Kamryn graduated from University of Arizona (Wildcats) in March 2022.

really love she’s a very talented woman. I am also a veteran award winning journalist from California but originally from Liberia, West Africa. In 1998, I received Human Rights’ Hellman/Hammett Award for Journalists Under Persecution. I’m currently working on a project-A mémoire and another interesting book about my acute experience with COVID-19. But I must commend Lisa for continued work in saving human kind.
