Gabrielle was born on February 1, 1967, in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Her heritage is mostly Irish and she also has English and German roots.

On 10 September 2008, Fitzpatrick married a commercial director and animator, Shaun Sewter, in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Fitzpatrick began her career as a professional model. She first appeared on television on an Outback Steakhouse commercial. Later, she auditioned for a modelling part in an Italian film ‘Via Monte Napoleone’ while doing a photoshoot in Milan but was given an acting role.
