Introduction :
Madhulika Rawat was the wife of the first Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of the Indian Armed Forces, the late Bipin Rawat. She had also served as the President of the Defence Wives Welfare Association (DWWA).
Personal Life : Parents, Family and Education
- A native of Shahdol district in Madhya Pradesh, Madhulika was the middle daughter of late politician Mrigendra Singh. Mrigendra was a two-time Congress MLA from the Sohagpur seat in 1967 and 1972. The family comes from the Rewa Gharana.
- She has a brother named Harshwardhan. Harshwardhan’s daughter is a national-level shooting champion.
- Madhulika was married to Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Bipin Rawat. Together, they had two children – both of them daughters. The elder daughter was named Kritika Rawat, the younger one was Tarini Rawat. Kritika is married and lives in Mumbai, while Tarini is still a student.

Tragic Death :
- On 8 December 2021, while she was travelling in the Mi-17 V5 helicopter from Delhi to Sulur, it crashed near Wellington Army Centre, Coonoor, Tamil Nadu.
- In the helicopter, she was accompanied by many other people – her husband CDS Bipin Rawat, Brigadier L.S. Lidder (defence assistant to the CDS), Lieutenant Colonel Harjinder Singh (special officer to the CDS), PSOs Naik Gursewak Singh, Naik Jitendra Kumar, Lieutenant Naik Vivek Kumar, Lieutenant Naik B Sai Teja, and Havildar Satpal.
- An inquiry was ordered to ascertain the cause of the tragic accident.
- At the time of her death, her brother Harshwardhan was in Bhopal attending a shooting competition. As soon as heard of the crash, he rushed to Delhi.
