Edgar Snyder was born on September 6, 1941, in Connellsville, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, to parents – Meyer and Selma Snyder.
His parents were immigrants of Russian and Jewish Polish origin. His father was a haberdasher. He has a brother and a sister.
Edgar lived in Connellsville until he was six. Growing up, his home environment was culturally Jewish, but not overly religious.

For his education, Snyder attended the Taylor Allderdice High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He graduated in 1959.
He then went on to study at Penn State University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He was there from 1959 to 1963.
From 1963 to 1966, Edgar went to the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Law. He remained there and graduated as a Juris Doctor, a Doctor of Law.

Edgar has three children with his ex-wife, Sandy, whom he divorced in 2014. They were married since 1982, for more than three decades.

Edgar was one of the first lawyers in the Pittsburgh area to use advertising to make his business visible.

In the early stages of his career, Edgar took advantage of the changes in drunk driving legislation that were introduced in 1983. Edgar’s first commercial ad was titled ‘Know Your Rights,’ and it ran in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Pittsburgh Press.
As a result of the advertising campaign, clients started hiring Edgar to defend them according to the new legislation.
He also attended seminars in order to become an expert in the new laws & then started running ads in local newspapers across five counties.

Following this, Edgar hired a partner, Cindy Danel, and slowly they became the biggest and most popular drunk-driving practice in the city.
After the initial boom of drunk driving cases, Edgar expanded his advertising campaign in newspapers to include support for personal injury cases.

In 1986, Edgar also started running ads on television, which is also when he opened a storefront office in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, while setting up a desk in the back of a van and traveling across the state to help those who needed legal advice.
Edgar’s motto “there’s never a fee unless we get money for you” is one of the most known quotes associated with his services.
He invested heavily in learning and using marketing strategies to promote his firm. This made the firm itself very successful, but it also kept Edgar away from the courtroom.
