  • Debora attended the University of Houston, and it was here that in 1979 she met her husband Fred Couples, who was later to become a world-class golfer.

  • During a tournament in Florida, Deborah was invited to attend a polo match, and it was here that she fell in love with the sport.
  • She took up playing polo and even sponsored a team.
  • Polo soon became obsessed and no longer willing to keep traveling with her husband to pursue his career. The marriage finally ended in 1992.
