Introduction :
Gauthier Destenay is the husband of Luxembourg’s PM Xavier Bettel. He is also called the First Gentleman in Luxembourg.

- Gauthier Destenay Nationality : Belgian.
- Education : He has a degree in architecture from Liege University’s Institute of Architecture in Belgium.
- An architect by profession, he works for the A3 Architecture firm.
Xavier Bettel Gauthier Destenay Marriage :
- Gauthier & Xavier first entered in a civil union in 2010. They dated for a few years and had their engagement in 2014.
- The couple were married in a small & private Ceremony on 5th May 2015. This was also the first year such a ceremony became legal in Luxembourg.
- On the day of the marriage, Xavier wore a navy blue suit, whereas Gauthier dressed in a dark grey one.
- Since Luxembourg needed to take over the presidency of the EU soon after the marriage, they delayed the honeymoon.
- Gauthier thus became the first gay “first spouse” in the European Union. This was the second case in the world after the President of Iceland.
- Together, the couple have attended a number of big public events together, such as Prince Guillaume & Princess Stephanie’s wedding.
- On the 60th anniversary of the EU’s Treaty of Rome, they both were welcomed by the Pope. This was a landmark considering the Vatican’s traditional view of same-gender relationships.

- However, the United States White house got into a minor controversy when they did not name the photo of Gauthier, but mentioned all the other nine female spouses including Melania Trump, Brigitte Macron and others.
