The retired High Court judge, who was their neighbour, also claimed that a window that would be overlooking his garden would be an intrusion of his privacy. The move was given the go-ahead by the council in Gloucestershire after they ascertained that the effect would be minimal. Lance and his wife had bought the house in 2007.
