- Shaw has been involved in many types of work. Her first professional job was as a radio personality at Shreveport’s 99.7 KMJJFM, on the acclaimed Daddy Roe Show.
- In 2008, she got a break in Hollywood movie Soul Man, in the role of Odetta.
- The same year, she had also done two uncredited roles. In one, she was Banquet dancer with Clyde, in the movie Welcome Home, Roscoe Jenkins. In the other, she acted a Red Carpet Elite in Private Valentine: Blonde & Dangerous.
- Three years later, in 2011, she was the lead actor in the movie Video Girl, as the video girl.
- For a time, she then became a stay-at-home mom for her young children.
- After splitting form Ne-Yo, she shot back to fame in 2014, starring in VH1’s Atlanta Exes. The show featured the lives of ex-wives and girlfriends of famous people. These included the former wives of rapper Usher, and Cee Lo Green.

- The couple had together decided to have no more babies. Monyetta got sterilized. She was under the impression that Ne-Yo had done the same, but after the split, she heard of his new partner Crystal Renay giving birth. This left Monyetta regretful.
