- Cary and Roberto initially took their young family to Long Island, New York. However, they did not remain there long.

- Belkys’ career started as a news representative for a local cable channel. That first job was a sort of one-person pony, where Belkys had to do a lot on her own to assure that the job got done.
- She then moved to Connecticut, where she worked as a reporter for WTNH-8, the local ABC affiliate channel in town.
- Belkys eventually returned home to Miami and began working at WSVN in 1994.
- She hosts a cooking show on WSVN called “Bite with Belkys.” The cooking show started as a two-minute cooking segment, then in 2017 was expanded to a 30-minute show. The show invites local chefs to cook signature dishes.
- Over the span of her career, Belkys has won five Emmy awards.
