She had an extensive interview with Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, the second son of Muammar Gaddafi, the Libyan leader who was overthrown and killed in 2011. This was during the time when he was in hiding from Interpol.
In late 2018, a Russian TU-160 bomber sent to Venezuela was about to land when Maria was standing on the airport runway. During her walk toward the landing aircraft, one of the bomber’s wings passed narrowly over her head.
