Mackey completed her Bachelor of Arts degree with honours in Media Studies and English Literature from Trent University.
In 2012, she moved to Australia to proceed with the Master of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication degree from Griffith University.
She received a great opportunity during her university & interned with Nine Gold Coast News. Her role was to report, write, edit, and field visits. She also focused on developing news stories, followed up with field reporters & assisted them on location, prepared the script draft and did several news bulletins.

In April 2009, Mackey began her career journey & started work with Trent Radio as a talk show host and producer. There she expanded her horizon of knowledge by finding content, writing scripts & presenting it too. She often conducted interviews and done promotional events as well.
During this time, she organized weekly fitness classes specialized in cardiovascular training and muscular conditioning.

For more field experience, she worked with the Absynthe Magazine as a field reporter and photographer where she did reports on monthly campus events.
In 2011, she started with GlobaLinks Learning Abroad and joined as a video blogger.
During her graduation, she worked with Ocean Road Magazine as a journalist and social media manager. Her responsibilities were to shoot, produce, edit & hunt for feature stories and also to write content for the various social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram etc.

Besides work, she contributes to the society through fundraising events for the Canadian Mental Health Association (Halliburton, Kawartha, and Pine Ridge).
