Sarah Jane Hyland is an American actress. Sarah was born on November 24, 1990, in New York.
For her education, she was homeschooled by her mother until 2nd grade, and then she attended Public School. In 6th grade, she was accepted into Professional Performing Arts School, Manhattan, and graduated in 2008.
Personal Life :
- Hyland is the daughter of parents – Mother Melissa Canaday (an acting coach to young actors) and Father Edward James Hyland (stage and film actor) and sister of actor Ian Hyland.
- In 2009, she began dating actor Matt Prokop, whom she met while auditioning for ‘High School Musical 3: Senior Year’.
- They also started living together in 2011 but got separated in 2014 when he was granted a temporary restraining order against Prokop after allegedly assaulting and threatening her. In 2015, she began a relationship with actor Dominic Sherwood.

- Sarah started doing voice work and commercials when she was only four years old.
- Before rising to fame, Sarah did small roles in some T.V shows like ‘Trinity’ (1998), ’The Audrey Hepburn Story’ (1998), ’All my Children’ (2000), ’Law and Order: Special Victims Unit’ (2001), ’Touched by an Angel’ (2002).
- She then appeared in 7 episodes of ‘One Life to Love’ (2007) as Heather and as Maddie Healy in 15 episodes of ‘Lipstick Jungle’ (2008-2009).
- In 2008, she moved to Los Angeles and got a chance to play the role of teenager Haley Dunphy in ‘Modern Family.’ This show took her career to another level & can be considered to be her most popular role.

- Sarah’s first movie role was in the film ‘Private Parts’ in 1997 as Howard Stern’s daughter. She then appeared in ‘The Object of My Affection’ (1998), ’Advice from a Caterpillar’ (1998), ’Cradle Will Rock’ (1999), Disney’s ‘Annie’ (1999), Joe Gould’s Secret(2000), Spanglish (2004).
- Sarah worked with Matt Prokop in a Disney Channel Original Movie, ’Geek Charming’ (2011). This was followed by roles in ‘Struck by Lightning’ (2012), ’Scary Movie 5’ (2013), ’Vampire Academy’ (2014), Date and Switch(2014), See You in Valhalla(2015), Satanic (2016) and XOXO(2016).
- She has provided the voice for Batgirl in ‘Lego DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League: Gotham City Breakout.’ She is also a producer of ‘See You in Valhalla’ and an executive producer of ‘XOXO.’
Awards and Facts :
- Winner of the Screen Actors Guild award for ‘Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series’ in 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014 for ‘Modern Family.’
- She also won Glamour Award for Best Comedy Actress in 2014.
- When Sarah was a kid, she was diagnosed with kidney dysplasia, for which she received a kidney in 2012 with her father as the donor. She still faces health issues as a result of that.
