Gloria Bloom is originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was born in 1941 into a Jewish working-class family.
She attended the Philadelphia High School for Girls and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania.
There she met her first husband, Peyton Bray, and gave birth to her only child, Lisa Bloom. They got divorced sometime in late 1961.

Around the time of graduating from university, she met her second husband William Allred, and they wedded in 1968. They were divorced without any children in 1987, but she retained her name.

She continued her studies at the Southwestern University of Law and transferred to Loyola University School of Law, from which she graduated and received Juris Doctor (J.D.). Following that she was admitted to the State Bar of California in 1975.
