Sona was born in Montebello, and is the only daughter of Armenian parents, who emigrated to the US from Turkey just prior to her birth.
She grew in Hacienda Heights, in the San Gabriel Valley.
As a high school student, she was not the most studious and was considered more of a jock. She played varsity soccer and was also on the volleyball team.

After leaving high school, she attended the University of Southern California (USC) where she eventually graduated with a Bachelor of Arts.
She said her mother had a hard time with her moving for university, and as such, she spent most weekends back home with her parents which really hindered her social life.

Sona first caught the eye of Conan in 2009, while working as an intern – someone had stolen her American Gigolo’s coffee mug.
She was quite upset about it and sent out a strongly worded email demanding it be returned. Conan read the email, and initially thought it was a joke.
He decided to bring her on-air to discuss it, as he found it quite humorous that she was so attached to a coffee mug that had pictures of unclothed men on it.

Since that time, he has pranked her on and off-air as his assistant, all in the name of comedy.
She refers to Conan as her big brother and states she respects him more than most other people in the world.
She has said that the craziest thing to ever happen to her while working in the assistant role was when Conan called her and asked her to arrange a viewing for him for Michael Jackson’s body, a week after his death.

She thought he was serious, and immediately started figuring out how she would do that. When he called back 5 minutes later and asked her to arrange for him to adopt Michael’s children – she realized it was a joke.
