Setzer’s initial job after graduating was serving on Gore 2000 communications team, the 2000 Democratic National Convention, and on the Coordinated Campaign.

From there, Christy accumulated over ten years of experience working on political campaigns. Notable politicians she has worked with include Al Gore, Howard Dean, and Christopher J. Dodd.
Her work on political campaigns was significantly noted as she helped candidates get impressive amounts of media attention across important networks such as CNN, MSNBC, ABC’s “Good Morning America” and also on the pages of the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Washington Post.

In 2009 and 2010, Setzer worked at Service Employees International Union (SEIU), where she was the National Media Director. SEIU represented just under two million low-income workers.
She then founded New Heights Communications in 2010. New Heights Communications is a public affairs firm based in Washington, D.C. Its main service is to counsel clients for their communications and provide strategic planning. Through her company, Christy has broadened the reach of her work to include Children & Youth, Education, Women, Economic Development and Health & Medicine, working with clients ranging from non-profit organizations to political groups.

It was a bout of chickenpox, at the age of eight, that began Setzer’s interest in politics. Recovering at her grandparents’ home, she began reading the Encyclopedia Britannica’s – teaching herself all about the American presidents.
