Tamera Sturgis is a glamorous American long-haul truck driver. She is most popular for her appearance on the A&E TV show Shipping Wars.

Personal Life, Parents and Family Details :

Tamera Jean Sturgis was born on January 20, 1969, in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. She was raised by her stepfather, Tom, and her mother, Pamela.
She also has one sibling – a brother.
When she was a teenager, her stepfather, a Vietnam veteran, descended into drug addiction which caused him to be separated from his family.

Tamera attended the Katella High School in Anaheim, California, from 1984 to 1987.
In 2014, Tamera’s stepdad was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Tamera stopped working and moved to be with him in his time of need. Tom passed away in 2015.
After a year, Tamera’s mother, Pamela Thompson, was also diagnosed with cancer. On this occasion, she moved in with Tamera in her house in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to receive treatment at the Cancer Treatment Centres of America.

Tamera continues to reside in California, but she is usually seen driving across the country with Todd.
She looks exceptionally fit & looks much younger than her real age. Her go-to exercise is roller-skating & she often takes her skates on the road. She has competed in roller derby leagues all over the country & the activity has helped improve her confidence, strength, and stamina.

Tamera met the man who would become her husband, Todd Ellis, in 1993, at a comedy gig he was doing.
Todd & Tamera married in September 1995. He took on her last name and is now known as Todd Sturgis.
After a few years of struggling, Todd’s career as a comedian failed to take off. Since then, he & Tamera have driven as a team since 1994. They booked their first co-piloting job from LA to New Jersey & have taken most jobs together.

Tamera was a waitress at the start of her relationship with Todd. She then enrolled with him in trucking school, secured their commercial driving license and since then they have lived most of their lives on the road.
Tamera has also worked for and been part of the NorCal Roller Girls derby team.

Starring in Shipping Wars :

From 2014 to 2015, Tamera and Todd first appeared on the A&E reality TV show Shipping Wars. The show featured competitions between shippers who would deliver items that other shippers had refused to transport.

The story of how the couple landed the show is interesting. A friend of Tamera’s saw a Facebook post on Shipping Wars and forwarded it to her. Tamera emailed, and the very next day, a casting director Skyped the couple. After receiving a camera the next day, the couple took it on a run and shot some footage. A couple of weeks later, the show producers sent an actual crew to shoot them, picking up and transporting some equipment for a friend. The journey kickstarted & the couple successfully completed multiple seasons & well over 100 episodes.

Interesting Facts and Trivia :

Tamera is very passionate about adopting rescue dogs. She has two mixed pit bull dogs that travel with her and Todd when they are on jobs.
Sturgis has started a Facebook page titled Trucking Is Glamorous, to highlight the positive aspects of truck driving, especially to females. In her free time, she also loves to encourage and talk to girls and young women thinking about a potential trucking career.
With over 2 million miles of trucking experience, Todd describes Tamera’s driving as ‘flawless’. Tamera states that they complement each other very well when they’re on the road together.

After spending a lot of time separated, as Todd had to work while Tamera had to take care of her ill parents, Todd united forces with songwriter Paul Marhoefer, a fellow truck driver, also known as Long Haul Paul. Paul wrote and recorded a song that later Todd gifted to Tamera following the twenty-fifth anniversary of their beginnings in the world of road trucking. The song also references the passing of Tamera’s father, as well as her strong and caring nature.
Tamera’s first co-piloting job with Todd took them from Los Angeles to New Jersey.
