Personal Life :
Kajal Kiran’s real name was Sunita Kulkarni. She was born in a Marathi family in Mumbai. Her family also included her younger brother Ravi Kulkarni. She had studied at the convent St Joseph’s high school in Colaba.
Professional Life :
Her debut happened with the movie Hum Kisise Kam Nahi opposite Rishi Kapoor in 1977. The film went on to become a superhit, mainly because of the songs Ye Ladka Hai Allah and Kya Hua Tera Vada.
For this movie, the director Nasir Hussain signed her when she met her while going to meet a relative. Apparently, Asha Parekh was to star in this movie, but when she opted out, the young Kajal got her first break.
She followed it up with a movie with Mithunda in 1980 called Vardaat. Thereafter, she signed more than 25 films, some of which were not released unfortunately and some were big flops. Later, she moved down to the South Indian movie industry and did a few Malayalam and Kannada films.
Despite a few good hits and a dream start, her film career failed to pick up after the 1980s. She quietly married a guy in Amsterdam and is now settled there with her children.
