She was taken to the Brooks Army Medical Center Trauma Unit and had a chest tube inserted so that she could breathe.

The surgeons opened her chest and set an entire row of ribs that had suffered compound fractures, and added metal plates to help them heal.
Ursula spent ten days in the hospital and then spent another two months at home recovering.
Since then, she returned to KSAT to deliver the news. However, she said it took longer for her to get dressed and wear make-up since she was still sore.

This accident even gave her a new appreciation for health and fitness.
