In 2008, Sophie began her career with The Daily Advertiser in Wagga as a sub-editor for six months.

She then progressed to be a news reporter for Imparja Television in Alice Springs for eight months. There, she compiled stories relating to current affairs.
Later, she became the Newsroom Head in Bundaberg, Australia, where she helped in the launch of a news program for WIN Television.
She was also the Manager for Bundaberg Office, assigning crew and sourcing stories for the program. Ms Walsh was there for ten months in 2009.

In October 2009, Walsh moved to Sydney to join the Nine Network crew as a news reporter.
She anchored the early morning national news bulletin and weekday night bulletins. She also broadcasts half-hour morning and afternoon inflight news for Qantas Airlines.

“9Go!” – Channel Nine’s variety channel news bursts were also produced, written and reported by Sophie.
She has also produced news bulletin for the TODAY show – a breakfast television program on Channel 9. She covered the 2011 Queensland Flood Disaster, the 2011 Christchurch Earthquake, and the Tsunami in Japan.
In early 2016, Walsh relocated to Brisbane to become a full-time news reporter. She did daytime, afternoon, and night bulletins on weekdays. Around mid-2016, she left her Brisbane post for a position in Sydney. During her tenure in Sydney, she also covered other national bulletins and worked on many occasions as a reporter and fill-in news presenter on Today and Weekend Today.
