For over two decades, Catherine is married to a legendary horse rider, Frankie Dettori. The couple met when she was in university.

Catherine was traumatised by the event and explained in a 2008 interview that she learned never to take life for granted after almost losing her husband. She also explained that he had been suffering from several panic attacks and was now afraid of being trapped in small and crowded spaces.
