Sara Pilot is the wife of the Indian politician, former Union Minister and Congress leader, Sachin Pilot. She is also a dedicated humanitarian who is deeply devoted to uplifting the lives of women.

Personal Life, Parents and Family Details :

Sarah Pilot is the daughter of Farooq Abdullah and the sister of Omar Abdullah, both of whom have been past Chief Ministers of Jammu and Kashmir.
Her mother, Mollie Abdullah, is an English woman and a nurse.
In 1990, Sarah was sent to live in London by her father after the growing turbulence in the Kashmir valley.

She also has two other sisters Safia Abdullah and Hinna Abdullah.
Sara is married to Sachin Pilot, whose real name is Sachin Rajeshwar Singh Bidhuri. Sachin is the son of late Rajesh Pilot and Rama Pilot, both of whom were also prominent members of the Indian National Congress.
The couple got married in 2004 against her parents’ will.

They have two sons together, 15-year-old Aaran and 11-year-old Vehaan (ages as of 2023).

Sara & Sachin’s Story :

Sara & Sachin met in London, as both the Pilot and Abdullah families had been family friends for some time.

However, there was strong opposition to their marriage from both sides because she was a Muslim and Sachin was a Hindu.
Sachin somehow convinced his family to accept Sara, but it was more difficult for her to convince her family. Because of this, the Abdullah family did not even attend their wedding!
However, subsequently, in later years, The Abdullahs relented and accepted their relationship.

Allegedly, the hesitation towards their marriage was not due to personal opinions but due to political pressure.
Sara’s mother was a Christian herself, and her brother had married a Hindu woman.
But, according to doctrines of Islam, a Muslim man could marry a non-Muslim woman, but a Muslim woman couldn’t marry a non-Muslim man. Because of this, her father faced severe pressure from the opposition govt. in Kashmir.

Education, Career and Job :

Sara Pilot has a Bachelor’s degree in Hotel Management and a Master’s degree in International Relations, both of which she completed from London.
First she interned and worked with United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) which is now known as United Nations Women, but subsequently started her own NGO called Centre for Equity and Inclusion (CEQUIN) in 2009 with co-founder Lora Prabhu.

Since 2014, she had also become a qualified yoga instructor and started giving beginner classes in Vinyasa and Hath Yoga twice a week in a South Delhi yoga school.

Interesting Facts, Height and Trivia :

Rumours had erupted of marital conflict between Sara & Sachin in 2013-2014 because of her husband’s alleged affinity towards one of his female friends.

It was also rumoured that the situation was so bad that she was living separately from her husband, in her father Farooq’s home in Delhi.
These rumours had come soon after her brother Omar was reportedly estranged from his Hindu wife of 17 years, Payal, because he had gotten close to a reporter of a national news channel.
Sachin Pilot is a former Indian Union Minister who also received the position of an officer in the Indian Army in 2012. He held the title of Lieutenant.
