Born in November 1985, Jahmai Webster, has three siblings – two brothers and one sister.
While growing up, Jahmai was quite interested in sports. He was a very good basketball player.

In an interview on the podcast, A Rocky Start on Sep 23rd, 2020, Jahmai said he found his initial passion for playing sports during his early years, as his dad was a track coach. During high school, Jahmai was super into television.

Besides playing basketball at high school, Webster was also working for the school newspaper. While doing both things, he decided to pursue a career in broadcast journalism. He got fascinated by storytelling in third grade while working for the class newspaper after developing a comic character torture-woman.

After graduating high school, Webster enrolled at California State University, Northridge in 2003. Webster graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Journalism in May 2008.

Jahmai started his proper career in sports journalism as an Anchor and Reporter for KXXV News in August 2008 based in Waco, TX. He soon took over the position as Weekend Sports Anchor/Reporter after only eight months. At KXXV, Jahmai prepared a detailed sportscast on various sports in the state of Texas. During the week, he used to undertake enterprise, report, produce, write, edit, and shoot out sportscast content.

In August 2010, Webster started working at KITV4 based out of Honolulu, Hawaii. He provided daily reports on local sports, University of Hawaii athletics, high school sports. He focused mainly on surfing, canoe paddling, various other watersports, and special events like the NFL Pro Bowl.
In September 2014, Jahmai moved to KMGH in Colorado to serve as an Evening Reporter and Anchor. He provided live and taped reports on the five major professional sports organizations – Broncos, Nuggets, Rockies, Avalanche, and Rapids. He also covered the University of Colorado and Colorado State University & various collegiate athletic programs.

He anchors, reports, and writes for three main sports programs – NESN, NESN After Hours, NESN Sports Weekend, and NESN Sports Update. Jahmai has been an active and accomplished member of the National Association of Black Journalists since June 2014. He has been a Southern California Assistant and District Director of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., since October 2016.
Webster had a hard time breaking into the journalism industry. In June 2008, he used to make VHS or DVD-taped resumes and sent out 100 resume tapes from his time in college. After weeks of getting anxious, in early July, Jahmai got a call from a Texas college station News director, Dennis Kenny. He was offered a Sports reporter position with a miserly salary.

During a podcast interview in September 2020, Webster told an interesting story about his academic years. He was doing a story on the girls’ basketball team. There was an uprising against the coach for biased behavior and mistreatment. Jahmai won an award for ‘Best Reporting’ for this story.
