He is married to Amy Lee, the American singer-songwriter and frontwoman of the rock band Evanescence.
The pair met after being introduced by a mutual friend and remained friends for many years before they started dating in 2005.

After getting engaged in January 2007, they married in May 2007 in a small ceremony back in Amy’s hometown of Little Rock.
In 2014, the couple announced the birth of their first child, Jack Lion Hartzler.
