- From 2004 to 2006, Shawna did her Master of Arts in Broadcast Journalism from University of Southern California.

- Shawna was a Government Relations Liaison at the National Meat Association, Washington D.C., from 2002 to 2004.
- From 2006 to 2016, Shawna worked with the NBC network. One of her initial positions was as a News Associate in the Greater NYC Area for a year, after which she worked as an Assignment Editor for the Political Desk at NBC.
- In May 2009, she took over the post of an Associate Producer & went on to become the Capitol Hill Producer in January 2010, moving to Washington D.C.
- In August 2011, Shawna started work as a White House Producer where she produced spots for the NBC correspondents to the White House.
- Later, she started as a Senior Producer and Senior Editor at NBC’s Meet the Press where she managed online strategy and organized interviews amongst other works.
- Until October 2019, Shawna worked as a DC Bureau Chief for VICE News Tonight on HBO & as a senior producer for VICE News Tonight, in Washington D.C. Metro Area. She had been with the online media broadcasting company since August 2016.
- From Nov 2019 to Nov 2020, Thomas worked as a Content Development Executive for a new mobile platform Quibi. Quibi helps develop primarily developing short-form news programming for NBC News, CBS News, and BBC.
