Darren started his career in advertising right after college. However, he soon abandoned that pursuit and left for Sydney on December 31, 1999, with $5000 in the bank. He then started a graphic design firm but didn’t stick around with it for too long.
By 2007, Palmer had bought an apartment in Sydney and renovated it. One of his friends who is in an interior designer photographed his place and submitted it to an interior design magazine who published it.
At that time, a new reality series called HomeMade was looking for new contestants, and Darren took part in it after considering for a while.
